FN1273-COMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Intertidal Manila and Littleneck Clam - Portions of Area 15 and 16 - Opening November 13, 2016.


The commercial Manila and Littleneck Clam by handpicking fishery opens from 
17:00 hours November 13, 2016 to 08:00 hours November 16, 2016 (3 tides) in the 
following areas:

Subareas: 15-1 to 15-4. Subarea 15-5 excluding closure 15-5 A - that portion 
south of a line drawn from a point on the northwest shoreline of Raza Island at 
50°18.26' north latitude and 124°58.10' west longitude, thence easterly to a 
point on the west coast of West Redonda Island at 50°18.12' north latitude and 
124°55.48' west longitude, thence southerly following the shoreline of West 
Redonda Island to an point at 50° 12.29' north latitude and 124°56.55' west 
longitude, thence southwesterly to a point on the northeast coast of Cortes 
Island at 50°11.74' north latitude and 124°56.94' west longitude, thence 
northwesterly following the shoreline of Cortes Island to Bullock Bluff, thence 
true north following the boundary line to Raza Island, and thence following the 
shoreline northeasterly back to the point of commencement, 
Subareas: 16-1, 16-2, 16-3, 16-4 Portion of 16-6, 16-8 to 16-13, 16-16, 16-17, 
16-18, 16-21 and 16-22.

Variation Order # 2016-506.

The following areas remain closed:

Cortes Island and Twin Islands portion of subareas 15-3 and 15-5;
Savary Island portion of Subarea 15-2;
Mitlenatch Island Nature Park portion of 15-2 and 15-3;
Okeover park in 15-4;
Harwood Point Park, (Harwood Point, Texada Island);
Portion of Sechelt Inlet Subareas 16-5, portion of 16-6 Southerly of Cawley 
Point and 16-7; 
Subareas 16-19 and 16-20 (Lasqueti Island).

Harvesters are reminded to confirm they have a registered buyer before 
harvesting in the fishery.

As a condition of licence, all eligible harvesters must wear a "high 
visibility" vest with their licence number clearly marked on it. Sacks of clams 
must be clearly identified with their licence number. All harvesters must have 
a valid clam harvester licence and photo identification.

Fishers should consult the 2016-2018 intertidal clam management plan for 
detailed descriptions of closed areas for this fishery, information on the 
licence limitation program and contact numbers for further information.

Harvesting is prohibited in all sanitary contamination closures. 
Harvesters are responsible for checking Fishery Notices for the Bivalve 
Shellfish Marine Biotoxin Updates, as recommended by the Canadian Food 
Inspection Agency and issued by DFO.
