FN1387-SANITARY - Rainfall Warning for Sunshine Coast (Gibsons to Earls Cove) and inland sections of West Vancouver Island


Multiple rainfall warnings (attached below), with total precipitation of 40-60 mm for the Sunshine Coast (Gibsons to Earl's Cove) and possibly exceeding 110 mm for inland sections of West Vancouver Island, have been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada's Weather Service.

Please be advised that intense rainfall events resulting in flooding and/or sewage collection system overflows, especially occurring after a prolonged period of dry weather, can adversely affect marine water quality and potentially result in temporary emergency shellfish harvesting closures. Although there is no proposed closure at this time, shellfish harvesters are advised to monitor weather conditions and warnings, and to plan their harvesting activities accordingly.

Rainfall warning issued for:

"	Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove, B.C. (082310)
"	Howe Sound, B.C. (082500)
"	Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver, B.C. (082610)
"	Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, B.C. (082630-082714)

Current details: 

Heavy rain returns to the region on New Years Eve.

A wet start to the new year is expected. Another storm system will approach the BC Coast today. Heavy rain is expected to develop by this evening and continue through Friday night. 

24 hour rainfall totals over the North Shore of Metro Vancouver and eastwards into Coquitlam and Maple Ridge are forecast to range from 40 to 60 mm. Over the Sunshine Coast, from Sechelt to Gibsons and the Howe Sound area, similar amounts are likely with the bulk of the rain falling during the day on Friday.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Current details: 

Heavy rain expected tonight and Friday.

Another storm system will approach the BC Coast today. Rain is expected to develop this afternoon and become heavy tonight. Rain will continue well into Friday.

24 hour rainfall totals are forecast to range from 80 mm near the coast to possibly more than 110 mm inland. 

Strong winds are also expected tonight and Friday, more so for exposed coastal areas.
