FN0836-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Chinook - Burrard Inlet - Subarea 28-9 - Management Measures - Angling Opportunities Effective Immediately

Further to FN0673, this Fishery Notice details Chinook recreational fishery management measures outside the migratory path of at-risk Fraser River Chinook stocks in Burrard Inlet Subarea 28-9.

Consistent with 2020 Fraser River Chinook conservation measures previously announced, the Department is providing some limited terminal recreational fisheries targeting abundant non-Fraser Chinook hatchery stocks in areas where Fraser Chinook stocks of concern can be avoided.

Based on historical analysis of the recreational creel information and associated coded wire tag (CWT) recoveries the Department is considering a small adjustment to no fishing for Chinook action in Subarea 28-9 only to provide some opportunity on abundant Capilano Chinook hatchery stocks returning to the river.

Effective immediately until 23:59 hours August 31, 2020, the daily limit for Chinook salmon is one(1) per day.

Effective 00:01 hours September 1 until 23:59 hours December 31, 2020, the daily limit for Chinook salmon is two (2) per day (per previously announced measures in FN0673).

Variation Orders: 2020-RFQ-414 and 2020-RCT-415

For the recreational fishery, the annual aggregate limit for Chinook salmon is ten (10) in all tidal waters coast-wide.

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal waters of British Columbia.

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labeling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped Chinook and Coho Salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program toll free at 1-866-

Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs) are currently in effect and are closed to all fin-fishing. Descriptions of RCAs, other closures such as finfish closed areas and salmon non-retention areas, and other recreational fishing information, can be found on the Internet at:
