FN0323-RECREATIONAL - General Information Regarding Mandatory Online Reporting Programs of BC Tidal Waters Sport Fishers
MANDATORY REPORTING OF RECREATIONAL FISHING Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) collects data on recreational fishing activity from BC Tidal Waters Licence holders through various internet reporting programs. The internet Recreational Effort and Catch (iREC) reporting program is run monthly to collect information on fishing activity and catch of over 80 species of finfish and shellfish. The internet Annual Recreational Catch (iARC) reporting program is run annually to collect catch records of Chinook salmon, lingcod and halibut. Other targeted reporting programs will be conducted as needed to collect additional information. The data collected through these reporting programs is critical to the department's assessment and management of the recreational fishery. When an adult purchases a Tidal Waters Sport fishing licence, they may be randomly selected to participate in a reporting program. It is a condition of Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licences to complete the reporting program if selected, before the program's closing date. Licence holders will not be selected to participate in more than one internet reporting program for each licence they hold; this policy is intended to limit the amount of time each licence holder spends reporting. If selected for the iREC or iARC reporting programs, a link to the reporting program, an access ID and the closing date will be provided at the bottom of the licence. Those selected for the iARC reporting program must retain their licence and those of any juvenile fishers in their household until after completing their reports between April 1 and April 23, 2021. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED. Additionally, if selected to a reporting program, you will be sent an e-mail with an access link and additional information to assist you in completing your report. For this reason, it is important that you ensure that your current e- mail address is entered in the licensing system. To update your e-mail address go to: https://recfish-pechesportive.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/nrls-sndpp/index-eng.cfm The reporting programs are conducted for DFO by PRA Inc. Individual responses remain strictly confidential and are protected in accordance with the provisions of the federal Privacy Act: http://laws- lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/P-21/index.html Thank you for your cooperation and contribution to these important reporting programs.
