Fishery Notice

Further to FN0395 and FN0650, the recreational Chinook management measures in 
effect for the Fraser River will be further extended past the previously 
announced August 23, 2019 date.  
 
Effective dates: Effective immediately until further notice.

Waters: Subareas 29-6, 29-7, 29-9 and 29-10 (Fraser River mouth).

Management Measure: no fishing for salmon.

Variation Order: 2019-RCT-0444


These management measures are being implemented given extremely poor returns of 
Fraser Sockeye and extremely limited Sockeye impacts available and to provide 
for priority access to chinook for First Nations food, social and ceremonial 
harvest opportunities. Overall returns of Chinook salmon returning to the 
Fraser river have also been very poor to date. 
 
The Department will continue to review and monitor in-season information on a 
regular basis to help inform future recreational fisheries management 
decisions. Further information on possible recreational fishery opportunities 
will be included in weekly Fraser River Panel (FRP) updates. Updated 
information will be announced by fishery notice. 

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal waters of British 
Columbia.  

The term "marked" means a hatchery fish that has a healed scar in place of the 
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery 
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped Chinook and 
Coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for 
coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program

Anglers are advised to check http://bcsportfishguide.ca for fishing closures 
and other recreational fishing information.
