FN0502-YUKON/TBR - RECREATIONAL Salmon - Alsek River (including the Tatshenshini River and tributaries) - 2019 Chinook and Sockeye Salmon Forecasts, Closures, and Daily Quota Reductions
Chinook Salmon: The preseason forecast for Alsek River Chinook salmon is 4,500 fish; the escapement goal range is 3,500 - 5,300 fish. A forecast of this magnitude provides for very little directed harvest opportunity. As a result, the Alsek River (British Columbia and Yukon portions including tributaries) daily recreational quota for Chinook salmon is reduced to 0 (zero) fish until further notice. Additionally, the Yukon portion of the Alsek River drainage will be closed to all salmon angling effective April 1 to August 15, 2019. Sockeye Salmon: The preseason forecast for Alsek River Sockeye salmon is 45,000 fish; the escapement goal range is 24,000 - 33,500 fish. A forecast of this magnitude provides for a limited directed harvest opportunity. As a result, the Alsek River (British Columbia and Yukon portions including tributaries) daily recreational quota for sockeye salmon is reduced to 0 (zero) fish until further notice. Additionally, the Yukon portion of the Alsek River drainage will be closed to all salmon angling effective April 1 to August 15, 2019. The daily quota reductions are necessary to ensure that Chinook and sockeye salmon escapement is maximized in the Alsek River (including tributaries) for 2019. Further restrictions or liberalizations are subject to inseason information.
