FN1085-RECREATIONAL - Halibut - SFAB/DFO Halibut In-season Working Group Meeting Update - September 2017
The Sport Fishing Advisory Board (SFAB) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) working group met September 25 to review the 2017 halibut season. The recreational halibut allocation, which is 15% of the Canadian total allowable catch is 1,118,029 pounds, was achieved in early September and the fishery closed. Final 2017 halibut catch estimates will be provided to the Sport Fishing Advisory Board (SFAB) process as the Department moves into our post-season consultations. Harvest advice for the 2018 halibut season will be considered at the 94th Session of the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held January 22 to 26, 2018 at the Hilton Portland Downtown in Portland, Oregon, USA. http://www.iphc.int/meetings-and-events/annual-meeting.html Pre-season consultations with the SFAB will commence shortly thereafter.
