FN1032-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Pink - Area 17 - Departure Bay and Nanaimo Harbour Open to Angling
Effective immediately until 23:59 hours December 31, 2017, the daily limit for pink salmon is four (4) per day in the following areas: 1) That portion of Departure Bay westerly of a line running from the following coordinates at 49 degrees 12.600 north, and 123 degrees 57.350 west near the Pacific Biological Station, to the light on Brandon Island at 49 degrees 12.427 north, and 123 degrees 57.571 west, to the most westerly BC Ferry dock located at approximately 49 degrees 11.672 North, and 123 degrees 57.372 West. 2) That portion of Nanaimo Harbour shoreward of a line from the end of the most southerly dock located at the Nanaimo Yacht Club, located at 49 degrees 10.614 North, and 123 degrees 56.336 West, to the pedestrian fishing pier (crab dock) located at Swy-a-lana Lagoon, at 4910.264 degrees north, and 123 56.051 degrees west. A gear restriction is also in effect in the above areas until 23:59 hours October 15, 2017. Angling is permitted using gear which includes a single pointed barbless hook with a maximum distance between the hook point and the hook shaft being not greater than 15mm. The gear restriction is not in effect October 16 - December 31, 2017. Variation Order Number 2017-520 Notes: Anglers are further reminded of the following: - This opening is for PINK SALMON ONLY. - There is a daily quota of four (4) pink salmon per day in effect. - Intentionally foul-hooking salmon or attempting to foul-hook salmon is illegal. Lack of compliance in this fishery could result in the fishery being immediately closed on short notice, therefore your cooperation is encouraged. - Violations may be reported anonymously by calling 1-800-465-4336. - All other species of salmon encountered or other finfish must be released immediately with the least amount of harm. - Anglers are reminded that a Rockfish Conservation Area is in place nearby in portions of Departure Bay and Northumberland Channel not included within the areas that are opened by this notice. The term "marked" means a hatchery fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin. Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program toll free at (866) 483-9994 for further information.
