Area 2E The Area 2E Charter started chum assessment on September 16 in Cumshewa Inlet and then moved south to Darwin Sound to assess chum and pink abundance. No commercial opportunities were found at that time. The test vessel departs Moresby Camp this afternoon and will attempt to assess streams as far south as Louscoone Inlet depending on weather. Next update for 2E will be on Monday, September 26. Skidegate Inlet - present at low abundance Cumshewa Inlet - present at low abundance Selwyn Inlet - present at below target abundance Darwin Sound - present at low abundance Area 2W The Fishery Manager completed a second assessment of Shields Bay and Clapp Basin on Monday, September 16. Conditions for assessment were ideal. Very few jumpers were observed and Mountain Creek will likely meet target. The Fishery Manager also completed an assessment of chum streams from West Skidegate Channel to Tasu Sound on Wednesday, September 21. Conditions for assessment were ideal. Tasu Sound (Botany Creek) had small schools of finners and jumpers in the estuary with a cumulative observed return that appears well below target. The presence of jumpers on the outside was very low. Chum abundance in all other areas was also well below target. No fishing opportunities are anticipated at this time. The Area 2W Charter departs Skidegate Inlet for Tasu Sound on Friday, September 23. The next update for 2W will be Monday, September 26.
