FN1281-RECREATIONAL - Salmon: Region 1 - COHO RETENTION IN THE COWICHAN RIVER - Effective Immediately
Effective immediately, the retention of coho salmon less than 35 cm (jacks) in the Cowichan River is not permitted. Jack coho opportunities will be managed to coincide with adult coho opportunities and will be based on abundance. Coho retention is currently closed. Any future opportunities will be announced in a separate fishery notice. Variation Order: 2015-559 FOR MORE INFORMATION: Contact Brad Beaith, Fisheries and Oceans Canada 250-756-7190. Notes: Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal waters of British Columbia. The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin. Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program toll free at (866) 483-9994 for further information.
