FN1224-ABORIGINAL - Invertebrates: Manila and Littleneck Clams - Area 7 - Heiltsuk Commercial Clam Opening November 8, 2015
Under agreement with the Heiltsuk Tribal Council, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is opening areas 7-12, 7-15 and 7-17 for the Heiltsuk Commercial harvest of Manila Clams (Venerupis philippinarum) and Littleneck Clams (Protothaca staminea). Recent acceptable biotoxin monitoring results permit this opening. Harvest conditions and locations are described under the terms of the Heiltsuk Tribal Council/Fisheries and Oceans Canada Joint Management Plan and harvest is limited to those members of the Heiltsuk First Nation who are in possession of a valid harvesting permit. This opening is effective 00:01 hours November 8, 2015 and will continue until the harvest threshold for this Subarea has been reached and pending continued acceptable biotoxin monitoring results. Fish harvesters are advised that there are contaminated closures in the vicinity. Information on specific closure areas is available on the internet at: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/index-eng.htm Fish harvesters are also reminded to check for the most recent information regarding any biotoxin closures in the area by calling the toll-free information number at 1-866-431-3474.
