FN0603-Recreational - All finfish: Subarea 23-1 - Tidal portion of the Somass River - Recreational Finfish Closure
Effective 00:01 hours June 29, 2015 the following area is closed to all fishing until further notice: In that portion of Subarea 23-1 from the tidal boundary signs at Paper Mill Dam on the Somass River downstream to a line commencing at a boundary sign in upper Alberni Harbour situated at 49°14.19 north latitude and 124°50.23 west longitude thence through the southernmost point of Hoik Island thence to the flashing green light at the mouth of the Somass River thence due east to a boundary sign on the opposite shore. Water levels on the Somass River are very low and river temperatures are reaching potentially lethal limits for migrating sockeye salmon. The Area 23 Harvest Committee and DFO have all agreed to support river closures in the Somass River to protect migratory fish during these challenging environmental conditions.
