FN0001-SANITARY - Area 17 - Amended Closure for Bivalve Shellfish near Ladysmith (Sanitary Closures 17.1 and 17.aa)
Effective January 2, 2015 the Conditionally Restricted area in Ladysmith Harbour and the Conditionally Approved area in Evening Cove (17.aa) are now in OPEN Status. Harvest of bivalve shellfish for licensed depuration and relay may now resume within the following Conditionally Restricted area in the vicinity of Ladysmith wastewater treatment plant outfall - a portion of Sanitary Closure Map 17.1 described as: The waters and intertidal foreshore of that portion of Subarea 17-7 inside a line commencing south of Slag Point at 48° 59.40' north latitude and 123°48.48' west longitude, thence southeasterly to a point in water at 48° 58.44' north latitude and 123° 47.00' west longitude, thence northwesterly to the southeastern tip of the Dunsmuir Islands at 48° 59.38' north latitude and 123° 47.07' west longitude, thence northwesterly following the mean high water mark to the northwestern tip of the Dunsmuir Islands at 48° 59.58' north latitude and 123° 47.72' west longitude, thence northwesterly to the southern tip of the smaller of the two Woods Islands forming the western shore of Burlieth Arm at 48° 59.78' north latitude and 123° 48.26' west longitude, thence northwesterly to the southern tip of the larger of the two Woods Islands forming the western shore of Burlieth Arm at 48° 59.96' north latitude and 123° 48.41' west longitude, thence due east to a point on land at 48° 59.96' north latitude and 123°48.05' west longitude, thence following the mean high water mark southeasterly to Sharp Point at 48° 58.88' north latitude and 123° 46.10' west longitude, thence southwesterly across the mouth of Ladysmith Harbour to a point of land at the western entrance of Davis Lagoon at 48° 57.94' north latitude and 123° 46.52' west longitude, thence following the mean high water mark to the point of commencement south of Slag Point [Sanitary Closure Map 17.1] [NAD 83]. Harvest of bivalve shellfish may now resume in the area described as: Emergency Closure Area 17.aa - Evening Cove The waters and intertidal foreshore of that portion of Subarea 17-5, as described in the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations, 2007, shoreward or westerly of a line from Coffin Point at 48°59.214' north latitude and 123° 45.450' west longitude to Sharpe Point at 48°58.881' north latitude and 123° 46.104' west longitude [Sanitary Closure Map 17.aa][NAD 83]. Note that this notice does not describe other sanitary closures which may be in effect, or Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine biotoxin closures.
