Fishery Notice

Effective immediately until December 31, 2014, in the following two portions of 
the Qualicum River, you may retain:

- Four (4) chinook per day, only two (2) of which may be greater than 62 cm.
- Four (4) coho per day, only two (2) of which may be greater than 35 cm. 
(hatchery or wild).

Waters:

Upstream of the Big Qualicum Hatchery, those waters between the pool above the 
upper weir (located approx. 75 meters downstream of the E&N railway bridge) to 
the Horne Lake Dam. 

Those waters downstream from the hatchery counting fence to the Qualicum First 
Nations reserve boundary (a distance of approximately 75 meters).

Please be aware that there is a requirement that all gear used have a single-
barbless hook, with a point to shank measurement of no greater than 15mm.

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal 
waters of British Columbia.  

The term "marked" means a hatchery fish that has a healed scar in place of the 
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery 
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and 
coho salmon.  Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for 
coast-wide stock assessment.  Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program
