FN0650-RECREATIONALl - Salmon - Region 1 - Somass River - Limited Sockeye Opening - Amendment to FN0646
Amendment to FN0646: Correction to closing date for the recreational sockeye fishery in Region 1 - Somass River. Please be advised that the closing date for the recreational sockeye fishery in the Somass River is August 1, not August 31 as stated in FN 0646. The correct description for the recreational sockeye fishery in Region 1 - Somass River is as follows: Effective daily from 06:00 hours to 22:00 hours July 19 to August 1, 2014 the daily limit of sockeye salmon is two (2) per day in that portion of the Somass River located approximately 200 meters above and 150 metres below the island near the boat launch at Somass Park near Service Road. The Port Alberni Sport Fishing Advisory Committee, the Hupacasath and Tseshaht First Nations, Area B Seine fleet, Area D Gillnet fleet, and DFO have agreed to extend this limited experimental fishery in a small portion of the Somass River, near Somass Park, to determine the long-term feasibility of future small- scale non-tidal sockeye retention fisheries in years of high abundance.
