Effective daily from 06:00 hours to 22:00 hours July 1 to July 18, 2014 the daily limit of sockeye salmon is two (2) per day in that portion of the Somass River located approximately 200 meters above and 150 metres below the island near the boat launch at Somass Park near Service Road. VO# 2014-305 The Port Alberni Sport Fishing Advisory Committee, the Hupacasath and Tseshaht First Nations, Area B Seine fleet, Area D Gillnet fleet, and DFO have agreed to extend this limited experimental fishery in a small portion of the Somass River, near Somass Park, to determine the long-term feasibility of future small- scale non-tidal sockeye retention fisheries in years of high abundance.
