Subject:
FN0328-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Bute Inlet - Subarea 13-22 - Extended Opening for Chinook Retention

At the request of local anglers and review by DFO Stock Assessment, Subarea 13-
22 commonly known and described as those waters of Bute Inlet lying north of a
line running from a marker at Alpha Bluff to a marker on the opposite shore,
and then to the RCA boundary at the head of Bute Inlet, will remain open to the
retention of chinook for the additional month of May, 2014. This opening
extension is predicated on fishers participating in the DFO log book program.
Subarea 13-22 will revert to the non-retention of chinook effective 00:01 hours
June 1, 2014 to 23:59 hours September 30, 2014.

If you wish to obtain a log book please call 250-286-5814. Log books are also
available at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Office located at 150-1260
Shopper's Row in Campbell River.

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia. This includes all species of fish in the Fraser
River.

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the voluntary Salmon Sport Head
Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped
chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical
information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head
Recovery Program at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

Rockfish Conservation Areas that are currently in effect are closed to all fin
fishing. Descriptions of these closures, and other recreational fishing
information, can be found on the Internet at:

www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish

Did you witness suspicious fishing activity or a violation? If so, please call
