FN1127-COMMERCIAL - Intertidal Clams - Butter Clams - Area G - Area 12 - Opening
The commercial Intertidal clam fishery opens in Area G, for butter clams only, from 14:00 hours November 27, 2012 to 04:00 hours December 03, 2012, 6 tides in the following area: Subarea 12-26, except for portions which remain closed all year. The closed areas include: Health Bay; Fly and Insect Islands; Monday Anchorage; Blunden Passage; Betty Cove; the intertidal foreshore of Village Island between Warren Bluff and the western entrance to Canoe Pass. Subareas are described in the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations. Variation Order # 2012-464 Note: Harvesters are advised to confirm the buyers have a market for all butter clams harvested before participating in this opening. Littleneck clam fishing opportunities will remain closed at this time due to apparent low densities. Comments from fish harvesters on the abundance and strength of Native Littleneck stocks observed in the area is requested. Area G ACL applications are available by the DFO Pacific Licencing Unit in Nanaimo at 250-754-0400. All applications must be mailed to a DFO licencing office for processing before the licence can be issued. Fishers should allow two weeks for processing and return mail.
