FN0929-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Region 1 - Cowichan River - Closure to all salmon fishing in the Cowichan River
Region 1 Effective immediately until further notice, the Cowichan River will be closed to all salmon fishing from the weir (dam) at Cowichan Lake down to the tidal water boundaries until further notice. This action is to protect returning chinook stocks experiencing very poor migratory conditions. Variation Order: 2012-391. FOR MORE INFORMATION: Contact the nearest Fisheries and Oceans Canada office. Notes: 1. Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped (Hatchery Marked) chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program at (866) 483-9994 for further information. The location of the Head Recovery Depots can be found at the following site: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/tag-etiquette/prize-prix-eng.htm The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin. 2.
