FN0265-COMMERCIAL - Tuna - 2012/2013 Albacore Tuna Integrated Fisheries Management Plan and 2012 High Seas and Canadian Waters Tuna Fishery Opening

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans effectively closed the 2011/2012
fisheries for tuna species in waters of the Pacific Ocean within the Canadian
Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and offshore (high seas) as of March 31, 2012 at
23:59 hours.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans issued variations orders, effective
April 1, 2012 at 00:01 hours to open fisheries for tuna species within the
Canadian Exclusive Zone (EEZ) and the offshore (high seas).

IMPORTANT:
All tuna harvesters are reminded that Conditions of Licence require all harvest
activity to be recorded in a tuna harvest logbook. Harvest logs that meet the
requirements of the Department are available for purchase from the Canadian
Highly Migratory Species Foundation, c/o 4829 Maplegrove Street, Victoria, BC,
V8Y 3B9, (250) 658-0179. Harvesters fishing for tuna without a harvest log will
be fishing in contravention of their Conditions of Licence.

Prior to issuance of a Section 68 (high seas) tuna licence, a letter confirming
that arrangements have been made to obtain the logbook and related
keypunching/data transmission services must be presented to a Pacific Fishery
Licence Unit.

All tuna harvesters are required to submit a WCPFC/IATTC vessel registration
form prior to harvesting for tuna anywhere in the Pacific Ocean. Forms have
been sent to vessel owners who purchased a tuna logbook last season. Further
details and information on the requirements can be found in your Conditions of
Licence.
