Manila and Littleneck Clams Area F The following areas will open for commercial Manila and Littleneck clams by hand picking from 12:00 hours February 06, 2012, to 23:59 hours February 07, 2012 - 2 tides in the following areas: In Area 24: Subareas 24-4, 24-5, 24-9, 24-10, 24-14 except FSC, recreational and park closures as described on pages 12 and 13 of Appendix 1 of the 2010/2012 Clam Management Plan - Whiskey Jenny Beach, Bawden Bay, Whitepine Cove, Stockham Island, Hesquiat Harbour, Pacific Rim National Park, Grice Bay, McBey Islets and Dinner Island. In Area 25 Subareas 25-1 to 25-15, except FSC, recreational and park closures as described on pages 12 and 13 of Appendix 1 of the 2010/2012 Clam Management Plan - Queen Cove Beach In Area 26 Subareas 26-3 and 26-5 except FSC, recreational and park closures as described on pages 12 and 13 of Appendix 1 of the 2010/2012 Clam Management Plan - Tahsish River, Aktis Island, and Clanninick Cove. Except Maa-nulth First Nation Inter-tidal Bivalve Harvest Areas as described in Fishery Notice 2011-0295: Big Bunsby: "Malksope-Upsowis" Subarea 26-8, Malkscope-Bunsby Islands Subarea 26-7. Kauwinch River: "Kauwinch River" Subarea 26-5. Artlish River: "Artlish River" Subarea 26-4. Amai Inlet: Amail Inlet Subarea 26-3 The following Areas and subareas remain closed: - Area 23 - Subareas 24-1 Hesquiat Harbour, 24-2 to 24-3, 24-6 to 24-8 24-11 to 24-13 - Subarea 25-16 - Subareas 26-1, 26-2, 26-3, 26-6 to 26-10 - Area 27 - There are numerous sanitary contaminated areas throughout area F where harvesting is prohibited. Harvesters must note the PSP closures identified on this notice. Variation Order # 2012-48 Notes: Shellfish harvesters are advised to monitor weather conditions and warnings and to plan their harvesting activities accordingly. This fishery will only take place provided psp levels and water quality remain acceptable. Fishers are advised to contact the local fishery office or check fishery notices prior to this fishery to confirm the opening. New Sanitary closures in Areas 24 and 25 Closure 24.09 - East Holmes Inlet The waters and intertidal foreshore of the east side of Holmes Inlet, within a distance of 125 meters from the outer perimeter of the floating living accommodation located at or near 49° 27.43' north latitude and 126° 14.21' west longitude, within aquaculture tenure land file #1401290. [NAD 83] Closure 25.25 - Bligh Island, The waters and intertidal foreshore of Bligh Island, within a distance of 25 meters from the outer perimeter of the floating living accommodation located at or near 49° 39.34' north latitude and 126° 32.60' west longitude, within aquaculture tenure land file #1408086. [NAD 83] Closure 25.24 - West side of Hisnit Inlet, Nootka Sound The waters and intertidal foreshore on the west side of Hisnit Inlet, west of a line drawn from a point of land at 49°44.55' north latitude and 126°31.17' west longitude, thence southerly to a point on land at 49°44.33' north latitude and 126°31.15' west longitude. [NAD 83] Harvesters should contact their respective buyers and processors prior to the fishery to ensure their product will be purchased. Harvesting on shellfish aquaculture tenures is prohibited without explicit authorization of the tenure holder. All harvesters are requested to be off the beaches by closing time and all buyers are requested to conduct buying activities within 12 hours of the closure. Harvesters are also advised to be aware of Olympia oyster populations in various locations on the WCVI and to try to avoid impacts to this species while harvesting. Harvesters are also advised to be aware Green Crab in various locations on the WCVI and ensure the green crab does not end up in product harvested. All eligible fishers must have their 2012 licence and meet the Conditions of Licence, (wear a high visibility vest with licence number marked on it, and the sacks of clams must be immediately tagged with the licence number as soon as clams are placed in it). Fishers should consult the 2010/2012 Intertidal Clam Integrated Fisheries Management Plan and a local Fisheries and Oceans Canada office for descriptions of closed areas and contact numbers for further information.
