Area 23
Effective immediately the harvest prohibition for geoducks and horse clams is 
lifted in Subareas 23-5, 23-6 (except Useless Inlet) and 23-8 to 23-10.

The most recent marine biotoxin test results were acceptable.


SUMMARY:

The following information in this fishery notice reflects Paralytic Shellfish 
Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine toxin closures as of January 31, 
2012 for bivalve shellfish (oysters, clams, scallops, mussels, and geoducks).  
Note that this fishery notice does not describe sewage contamination closures.

Area 20
Closed to butter clams and scallops only.

Area 21  
Closed to all bivalve shellfish.

Area 22
Closed to all bivalve shellfish.

Area 23
Subarea 23-3 closed to scallops, butter clams, geoducks and horse clams only;
Subareas 23-4 and 23-7 closed to all bivalve shellfish except manila clams, 
littleneck clams, oysters and mussels; 
Subarea 23-5 closed to all bivalve shellfish except manila clams, littleneck 
clams, oysters, mussels, geoduck and horse clams;
Subareas 23-6 (except that portion of Subarea 23-6 northeast of a line drawn 
from a point of land at 48 degrees 58.47 minutes north latitude and 125 degrees 
04.92 minutes west longitude to a point of land at 48 degrees 58.61 minutes 
north latitude and 125 degrees 05.05 minutes west longitude, known as Useless 
Inlet) closed to butter clams only; 
Portion of Subarea 23-6 northeast of a line drawn from a point of land at 48 
degrees 58.47 minutes north latitude and 125 degrees 04.92 minutes west 
longitude to a point of land at 48 degrees 58.61 minutes north latitude and 125 
degrees 05.05 minutes west longitude, known as Useless Inlet, closed to all 
bivalve shellfish except manila clams, littleneck clams, oysters and mussels;
Subarea 23-8 closed to scallops and butter clams only;
Subareas 23-9 and 23-10 closed to all bivalve shellfish except geoduck and 
horse clams;
Balance of Area 23 closed to all bivalve shellfish.

NOTES:
Details are broken into Areas and Subareas, as managed by Fisheries and Oceans 
Canada (DFO).  Subarea information is not in the British Columbia Tidal Waters 
Sport Fishing Guide, but it is readily available in non-navigable Subarea 
management charts that can be obtained at DFO offices.  In addition, 
descriptions of Subareas are set out in the Pacific Fishery Management Area 
Regulations, 2007.  These regulations are available at libraries and from the
