UPDATE: Maps of Fishery Management Areas and Subareas can be found at: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/biotox/index-eng.htm Area 24 Effective immediately the harvest prohibition for geoduck and horse clams is lifted in Subareas 24-4, 24-6 and 24-7. The most recent marine biotoxin test results were acceptable. SUMMARY: The following information in this fishery notice reflects Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine toxin closures as of January 5, 2012 for bivalve shellfish (oysters, clams, scallops, mussels, and geoducks). Note that this fishery notice does not describe sewage contamination closures. Area 21 Closed to all bivalve shellfish. Area 22 Closed to all bivalve shellfish. Area 23 Subareas 23-3 and 23-8 closed to scallops, butter clams, geoducks and horse clams only; Subareas 23-4, 23-5 and 23-7 closed to all bivalve shellfish except manila clams, littleneck clams, oysters and mussels; Subarea 23-6 (except that portion of Subarea 23-6 northeast of a line drawn from a point of land at 48 degrees 58.47 minutes north latitude and 125 degrees 04.92 minutes west longitude to a point of land at 48 degrees 58.61 minutes north latitude and 125 degrees 05.05 minutes west longitude, known as Useless Inlet) closed to butter clams, geoducks and horse clams only; Portion of Subarea 23-6 northeast of a line drawn from a point of land at 48 degrees 58.47 minutes north latitude and 125 degrees 04.92 minutes west longitude to a point of land at 48 degrees 58.61 minutes north latitude and 125 degrees 05.05 minutes west longitude, known as Useless Inlet, closed to all bivalve shellfish except manila clams, littleneck clams, oysters and mussels; Balance of Area 23 closed to all bivalve shellfish.
