Fishery Notice

Effective 00:01 Hours April 1, 2026 the waters and intertidal foreshore of that portion of Subarea 2-1 inside a line that commences at 53°14.335' N, 132°11.029' W [Kagan Bay, Graham Is.] then in a straight line to 53°13.660' N, 132°9.661' W [Lina Is.] then following the shoreline to 53°13.123' N, 132°8.293' W then in a straight line to 53°12.509' N, 132°8.856' W [Angle Is.] then in a straight line to 53°12.223' N, 132°10.634' W [in water] then in a straight line to 53°12.666' N, 132°12.122' W [Legace Is.] then following the E shoreline to 53°12.737' N, 132°12.547' W then in a straight line to 53°13.006' N, 132°13.137' W [Treble Is.] then in a straight line to 53°12.906' N, 132°14.691' W [Graham Is.] then in following the shoreline to the point of commencement.

Except not within Xaana Kaahlii (Skidegate Inlet) Marine Refuge: Tllgaduu Gandlaay SGaagiidaay (Slatechuk Creek) (See fishery Notice FN0100 Feb 2025) 

are open to the recreational harvest of Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas).  

This opening will remain in effect until June 30th pending acceptable results from the on-going marine biotoxin monitoring program.

Harvesters are advised that the daily limit for oysters (except Olympia)in this area is 6.  The possession limit is twice the daily limit.

A tidal waters sport fishing licence is required to harvest intertidal Oysters.

Note: Olympia oysters are endangered, and it is illegal to harvest them. To avoid inadvertently harvesting Olympia oysters while you are harvesting Pacific oysters, do not harvest any oyster less than 5 cm in diameter.

Fish harvesters are advised that there are contaminated closures in the vicinity. Information on specific closure areas is available on the internet at: https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/shellfish-mollusques/contamination/index-eng.html

Bivalve shellfish are susceptible to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) and other marine biotoxins and biotoxin closures may occur.  All bivalve shellfish harvesters must check before they harvest to ensure that the area is not closed.
