Fishery Notice

Effective 00:01 Hours January 9, 2026 the waters of Gunboat Pass, from a North/South line between Manson Point and Cone Point East to the boundary line between Madigan Point and Georgie Point in Pacific Fisheries Management Subarea 7-17 , except for Sanitary Closure 7.19 are open for the recreational harvest of Manila Clams (Venerupis philippinarum), Littleneck Clams (Protothaca staminea), Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) and Mussels (Mytilus spp).  This opening will remain in effect pending acceptable results from the on-going marine biotoxin monitoring program.

Harvesters are reminded that the daily aggregate bag limit for Littleneck and Manila Clams is 60. The daily aggregate limit for mussels is 75 of which 25 may be California mussels. The daily limit for oysters (except Olympia) is 12.  The possession limit is twice the daily limit.

A tidal waters sport fishing licence is required to harvest intertidal clams.

Note: Olympia oysters are endangered, and it is illegal to harvest them. To avoid inadvertently harvesting Olympia oysters while you are harvesting Pacific oysters, do not harvest any oyster less than 5 cm in diameter.

Variation Order 2026-RCT-082 and 2026-RFQ-081 are in effect.

Fish harvesters are advised that there are contaminated closures in the vicinity. Information on specific closure areas is available on the internet at: https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/sani/a-s-7-eng.html 

Bivalve shellfish are susceptible to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) and other marine biotoxins and biotoxin closures may occur.  All bivalve shellfish harvesters must check before they harvest to ensure that the area is not closed.
