FN1372-SANITARY - Rainfall Warning for West Vancouver Island


A rainfall warning (attached below), with total precipitation of 100 mm for West Vancouver Island has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada's Weather Service.

Please be advised that intense rainfall events resulting in flooding and/or sewage collection system overflows, especially occurring after a prolonged period of dry weather, can adversely affect marine water quality and potentially result in temporary emergency shellfish harvesting closures. Although there is no proposed closure at this time, shellfish harvesters are advised to monitor weather conditions and warnings, and to plan their harvesting activities accordingly.

Rainfall warning in effect for: 

"	West Vancouver Island

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

A Pacific frontal system approaching West Vancouver Island, will produce heavy rainfall beginning early this afternoon. 100 mm of rain is expected over West Vancouver Island through Wednesday afternoon.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
