FN0384-COMMERCIAL - Geoduck and Horse Clam - Season Extension and Quota Carry-over.
The 2019/20 Geoduck and Horse Clam season, originally scheduled until February 29, 2020, was extended until April 30, 2020. The recent outbreak of COVID-19 (Human Coronavirus) has resulted in an almost complete shutdown of international markets for Geoduck. This lack of markets and lack of transport to markets has continued. The 2019/20 Geoduck and Horse Clam season has been further extended to May 31, 2020. Extending the season does not increase the overall amount harvested and therefore no concern for conservation. DFO is also allowing vessels that are unable to complete their 2019/20 quota by May 31, 2020 to carry-over the remaining quota to their 2020/21 licence. All management measures, e.g. area quotas and vessel quotas, remain in place and the overall harvest is not increased. All conservation limits remain in place.
