This notice provides management actions to December 31, 2019. Fishing is permitted on the Fraser River during daylight* hours only in Region 2. Further to FN1071, the coast-wide returns of Chum salmon have been very poor and the current in-season estimate for the return to the Fraser River is 564,000 Chum. There is an 80% probability that the run is between 421,000 and 752,000, and a 6% probability that the run will exceed the escapement goal of 800,000. At this run size recreational chum fisheries will not take place on the Fraser River mainstem. Waters: Fraser River in Region 2 from the downstream side of the CPR Bridge at Mission, BC to the Highway 1 Bridge at Hope, BC. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Effective until November 2, 2019 at 23:59 hours, you may not fish for salmon. Effective November 3 at 00:01 hours until December 31, 2019 at 23:59 hours: - The daily limit for Coho salmon is two (2) hatchery marked fish only. You may not retain wild Coho. - You may not retain Chinook, Chum, Sockeye or Pink salmon. Waters: The Fraser River in Region 2 upstream from the Highway 1 Bridge at Hope, BC. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This area will remain closed to fishing for salmon until further notice. Day light hours only refers to (One hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset). Reference to sunrise and sunset means the times for those events as calculated by the National Research Council of Canada and published daily at http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/bc-45_metric_e.html. Please note that salmon fishing will not open until late July 2020 at the earliest on the Fraser River. Variation Order No. 2019-RFQ-574, 2019-RCT-579 Notes: Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal waters of British Columbia. Anglers are requested to release any hatchery marked sockeye. These fish are hatchery raised sockeye and part of a recovery program designed to increase the numbers of Cultus Lake sockeye. The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin. Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program toll free at (866) 483-9994 for further information.
