Rainfall warnings serve to alert shellfish growers that an approaching storm
may overload wastewater treatment facilities and their collection systems, and
result in excess surface runoff and flooding that may lead to emergency
shellfish harvesting closures. Shellfish growers should adjust their
harvesting plans accordingly.
