Effective daily from 06:00 hours to 22:00 hours from May 1, 2016 until further notice the daily limit of sockeye salmon is two (2) per day in that portion of the Somass River located approximately 200 meters above and 150 metres below the island near the boat launch at Somass Park near Service Road. Variation order 2016-196 The Port Alberni Sport Fishing Advisory Committee, the Hupacasath and Tseshaht First Nations, Area B Seine fleet, Area D Gillnet fleet, and DFO have agreed this year again to implement a limited area experimental fishery in a small portion of the Somass River, near Somass Park. The goal of this fishery is to determine the long-term feasibility of future small-scale non-tidal sockeye retention fisheries in years of high abundance.
