Fishery Notice

The most up-to-date in-season forecast available on July 25th, 2014 is Skeena 
Sockeye return to Canada estimated from 2.1 million to 3.5 million (90% and 10% 
probability levels) with a 50% probability level of 2.6 million.  A return of 
this size allows an increase in Skeena recreational sockeye daily limit to 
4/day, as per management action guidelines in the Northern B.C. IFMP.

Effective 00:01 hours Saturday, July 26, until 23:59 hours Monday, September 
15, 2014 the daily limit for sockeye salmon has been increased to 4 fish per 
day from 2 fish per day in the following waters:

The mainstem waters of the Skeena River from the mouth upstream to the 
confluence with the Babine River.

Anglers are reminded of the sockeye non-retention area on the Skeena River from 
the boundary sign approximately 100m upstream of the confluence with the 
Kitwanga River downstream to Mill Creek. 

Anglers are reminded that only single barbless hooks may be used in all streams 
in Region 6 and there is a total daily limit of 4 salmon per day in the 
aggregate.

The waters of the Babine River will remain at 2 sockeye per day.

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal 
waters of British Columbia.  

Anglers are requested to release any hatchery marked sockeye.  These fish are 
hatchery raised sockeye and part of a recovery program designed to increase the 
numbers of Cultus Lake sockeye.

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the 
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery 
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and 
coho salmon.  Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for 
coast-wide stock assessment.  Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program 
toll free at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

Rockfish Conservation Areas that are currently in effect and are closed to all 
fin fishing.  Descriptions of these closures, and other recreational fishing 
information, can be found on the Internet at:
